In August 2024, we wanted to take a moment to review and summarise the Ecosystems of the Month featured so far this year. We’ve highlighted seven distinct ecosystems that are making significant strides in digital health globally. To do this, the ECHAlliance community team—Andy Bleaden, Communities Director; Inés Luján, Ecosystems and Membership Officer; and Iman Amar, Ecosystems and Membership Assistant—have come together to discuss the first seven Ecosystems of the Month for 2024 and share what has impressed us most about each one.
-
January: Chile Health Ecosystem
We started the year 2024 with Chile Health Ecosystem Ecosystem as our Ecosystem of the Month in January and Inés, Ecosystems & Membership Officer, highlights how this ecosystem brings together patient associations, health care providers and the Ministry of Health. This joint work is giving great results in Chile and we hope to see even more of their work in the coming months.
-
February: Lithuania – Lithuanian Health Technology Ecosystem
LithuaniaBIO is the cluster behind our ecosystem in Lithuania and Inés considers its work as a non-governmental organisation and its efforts to unite the work of hospitals, companies, research and study institutions to be of great importance and value. Lithuania’s importance in the European ecosystem landscape is key, as it collaborates with all its neighbouring countries and supports research and development.
-
March: Denmark – Health Tech Hub Copenhagen Ecosystem
For Iman, Health Tech Hub Copenhagen is renowned for its dynamic ecosystem involving digital health scale-ups, universities, hospitals, and investors. It aims to create scalable and sustainable health solutions with global impact by leveraging a strong network and collaborative environment.
-
April: Spain – Basque Health Ecosystem
The Basque Health Ecosystem, recognised as ECHAlliance’s Ecosystem of the Month in April, emphasises collaboration among various stakeholders, including universities, health institutions, and companies, to foster innovation in healthcare. For Iman, it focuses on integrating technology to enhance patient care and promote sustainable healthcare solutions.
-
May: Romania – Transylvania Digital Health Ecosystem
When we featured our ecosystem from Transylvania in Romania led by Fresh Blood what impressed Andy was the clear focus on people, projects and partnerships which has developed over the last few years since its inception. A thriving ecosystem that has innovation baked into it and clear stakeholders from the region, government and universities as well as hospitals.
-
June: Singapore – Singapore Health Technologies Ecosystem
As one of our newest ecosystems, we were delighted to feature our Singapore Ecosystem as ecosystem of the month in June.
The Singapore health technology ecosystem is a rapidly growing ecosystem with a high density of startups, small-and-medium sized companies, and multinational companies. Their network brings together well over 160 researchers across 6 world-class universities and public research institutions with a focus in health technologies research. With a strong emphasis in commercialising technologies, universities’ & public institutions’ spin-off starts contribute to well over 400 innovative start-ups in the health technology sector in Singapore; this will be a clear go to ecosystem for many of our members and ecosystems.
-
July: Finland – Kuopio Health Ecosystem
We closed out the half year with a great update from our Finnish Ecosystem in Kuopio led by Kuopio Health. A really impressive and well connected Ecosystem. Andy was impressed that they have three very clear pillars – insight, collaboration, and contribution – the heart of the Kuopio Health ecosystem is the multidisciplinary joint venture itself, Kuopio Health Co-op. Kuopio Health Co-op. combines entrepreneurs, innovators, business leaders, and educational, medical and governmental experts who have a thirst for solving the world’s vital health problems.
We hope this recap has been useful and that you have learned more about ECHAlliance Ecosystems in 2024. We, the Community Team, Andy, Inés and Iman, work with them on a daily basis and we are delighted to be able to showcase all the work behind this global network.
