Nordic health care technology startup takes Europe by storm

Tehnopol Startup Incubator alumni and Connected Health cluster member Triumf Health ranked highly these past few weeks in European sponsored Horizon 2020 programs. Horizon 2020 is the EU’s largest Research and Innovation program and has been allocated close to €80 billion of funding over a 7 year period (2014-2020). Among various events, it co-sponsors the European Health Catapult and Startup Lighthouse programs to assist startups to fruition.

Triumf’s CEO Kadri Haljas flew to London last week to pitch  among various competing digital health technology startups. She was chosen among 7 finalists to continue to Paris in the European Institute of Innovation and Technology’s (EIT) European Health Catapult program.

While the EIT’s purpose is to more generally focus on strengthening healthcare, promoting citizen health and encouraging a sustainable health economy, the European Health Catapult program specifically focuses on funding more mature start-ups with the best business plans giving them access to top level experts and investors.

By the same token, Triumf’s Chief Health Officer Kaari Kink recently returned from Madrid after having taken part in the Startup Lighthouse program and received the award of TOP20 startup in Europe. The Startup Lighthouse program is intended for European startups looking to scale-up abroad with specific mini acceleration programs in the countries that they wish to expand to.

Triumf Health is an International start-up active in Finland and Estonia focusing on digital therapeutics for pediatric patients delivered through a mobile game. It differs from traditional games, as it uses evidence based clinical research and psychological techniques to assess well-being, encourage treatment adherence and to induce the creation of healthy habits during gameplay. The data is also made available to parents and doctors through a dashboard.
