ECHAlliance Joins the xShare Project to Enhance Health Data Interoperability

ECHAlliance Joins the xShare Project to Enhance Health Data Interoperability
xShare was launched publicly on 17 January 2024

ECHAlliance is pleased to announce its participation in the xShare project, a groundbreaking European initiative aimed at fostering seamless health data sharing across the continent. This ambitious Horizon Europe project seeks to introduce the user-friendly xShare “yellow” button and industry label, empowering individuals to exercise their data portability rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

With a simple click of the “yellow button” integrated into various health portals and digital health applications, individuals will gain access to their health data in a machine-readable format, the European Electronic Health Records Exchange Format (EHRxF). This aligns with the objectives of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) regulation, paving the way for a future where health data sharing becomes as effortless yet safe and secure.

ECHAlliance, as the global connector for digital health, will contribute significantly to the xShare project by spearheading communication, dissemination, stakeholder engagement, and outreach initiatives. Leveraging its extensive expertise in ecosystem building and facilitation, ECHAlliance will ensure the project’s success in realising its vision of a unified, interoperable health data landscape.

The xShare project, along with the XpanDH project launched a year ago, marks ECHAlliance’s second involvement in initiatives focused on the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format. This ongoing commitment to EHDS developments further establishes ECHAlliance as an established player within the EHDS ecosystem. With many of its members involved in xShare, ECHAlliance aims to amplify cross-sectoral and cross-border collaborations, bridging the gap between healthcare needs and innovative solutions.

xShare was launched publicly on 17 January 2024 at the event organised during the Athens Digital Health Week. The project will run until November 2026.
