Highlights of the May meeting of the Northern Ireland Connected Health Ecosystem

The most recent Northern Ireland Connected Health Ecosystem (NICHECO) was held at Ulster University, Derry City, on Thursday 9 May. the theme of which was ‘Supporting Active Ageing through wearables and devices’ and the gathering was hosted by the Smart sENsor Devices fOr rehabilitation and Connected health (SENDoc).

The audience heard updates from:

  • The Department of Health including an introduction by the new Chief Digital Information Officer, Dan West, on the strategic plans to join the dots internally
  • Heard of the impact of technology on employability from the Royal Institute of Blind People representative Geraldine Grieve.
  • Ryan Williams, Director,  Independent Home Care Providers, and Jennifer Neff, Elemental Software, shared industry stories on how their technology is contributing to health and active ageing.
  • The gathering rounded off with a hands-on workshop of the devices being developed, tested and evaluated as part of the SENDoc wearable sensor technologies project.
