“Smart Big Data Platform to Offer Evidence-based Personalised Support for Healthy and Independent Living at Home”

Ana Aslan International Foundation specialists, together with 26 other partners, are an integral part of the SMART BEAR project, which will use “Big Data” information type to improve the health and well-being of the European population.

SMART BEAR – an innovation and research project supported by the European Commission, launched on September 1, 2019, is in fact a “Big Data” smart platform that will provide personalized support, based on participants medical evidence, for a healthy and independent life at home of the elderly.

SMART BEAR project will run for four and a half years (September 2019 – February 2024).

The developed solution under the SMART BEAR project will be validated through five large-scale pilots, involving 5,100 elderly people living at home (1,000 participants/country) from 6 European countries – Greece, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Romania.

The project objective is to develop an integrated solution that collects information daily, from the elderly with certain medical conditions (cardiovascular disease, hearing impairment, balance disorders, frailty and neurocognitive disorders) – through various types of sensors, medical assistive devices and mobile devices that can provide practical and personalized solutions to improve the quality of life, the independence and safety of the elderly at home.

The SMART BEAR platform will also be connected to hospitals and other healthcare services, in order to obtain all the necessary information to make the right personalized decisions.

To be able to participate in the testing of this platform, people can apply if aged 67-80 years, are willing to contribute to the project, are willing to receive an initial system configuration visit and subsequent evaluation visits and must have a medical history that includes at least two of the following conditions:

  • cardiovascular disease
  • hearing loss
  • balance disorders
  • mild cognitive impairment, mood disorders (depression, anxiety)
  • frailty, obesity

A poster entitled” SMART BEAR Smart Big Data Platform to Offer Evidence-based Personalized Support for Healthy and Independent Living at Home” will be presented by ANA ASLAN International Foundation in the 30th Alzheimer Europe Conference which will be hosted online from 20 to 22 October 2020 (due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was not possible to continue with the organization of face-to-face conference in Bucharest which has now been postponed to 2021).

SMARTBEAR is a project under the Call H 2020-SC1-FA-DTS-2018-2020, Trusted digital solutions and Cybersecurity in Health and Care, Topic DT-TDS-01-2019, Smart and healthy living at home. This project has received funding from European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No.
