This week, PULSE project has participated at the Big Data for Health Policy Symposium, an event organized by the MIDAS project consortium, which took place in Derry (Northern Ireland) at the Ulster University Magee Campus.

On Tuesday 21st, during the PM18 Projects Dissemination Session, five projects funded under the H2020 call “SC1-PM-18-2016 – Big Data supporting Public Health policies” have been presented to a public of experts from all around Europe. Among the projects, PULSE project has been introduced by Valentina Tageo, International Projects Director at ECHAlliance.

During this session, ECHAlliance explained how the PULSE system and the technologies developed within the project can help predict, mitigate and manage public health problems, as well as measuring the relationship between air pollution and asthma, and lifestyle and type 2 diabetes. The presentation illustrated the current status of the project which is coming to its end in few months, the results achieved and the contribution of PULSE towards the adoption of the Health-in-All-Policies approach at urban level.

About MIDAS Project

The MIDAS (Meaningful Integration of Data, Analytics and Services) designed to harness the power of big data to better inform public policy and improve health and wellbeing outcomes across Europe, aims at developing a pioneering digital platform for healthcare policy makers. This will allow decision-makers to tap into unstructured and unconnected healthcare data to better inform policy, reduce costs and improve health and wellbeing of the population.

In particular, the MIDAS platform investigates on how to connect patient data from European health authorities with individual data collected from apps, sensors and social media. Complying with the highest standards of data protection and ethics, the data are analysed on the MIDAS platform, which provides a tool for policy makers to benchmark, simulate and forecast outcomes of healthcare policy decisions.
