WCEA Impact 2021: Delivering solutions to Low and Middle-Income Countries

“It has been a year of colossal efforts in global health. Countries battled COVID-19, which claimed more lives in 2021 than in 2020 while struggling to keep other health services running.
Health and care workers have borne the lion’s share of these efforts but often received little recognition or reward. “Lifesaving COVID-19 vaccines, tests, and treatments were rolled out, but overwhelmingly in the richest countries, leaving many populations unprotected, especially in lower-income countries.”* *Source WHO

To support 2020, Year of the Nurse and Midwife, we at the WCEA began strategizing how to improve access to quality accredited education for nurses and midwives in low and middle-income countries. During 2019, we enhanced our platform to work in low bandwidth settings such as Africa so that content could be consumed online & offline.

The goal was to empower nurses and midwives to develop their skills to enable them to deliver better patient care and improve health outcomes.

Today, we are proud to say that almost 4M courses have been taken through our CPD Platform and nearly 500k healthcare professionals have benefited from free courses, provided by our expert education partners. We are very thankful for their support.

2022 New Projects

Coming Soon – Release of a new series of e-learning resources on key life-saving skills.

The United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, is delighted to announce the launch of a new series of e-learning and m-learning midwifery training resources for midwives and other maternity care providers. These resources focus largely on lifesaving emergency obstetric care and have been developed in partnership with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and the World Continuing Education Alliance (WCEA). These innovative resources can be used for strengthening pre-service education and for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Soon available globally via the WCEA App, these training resources were made possible with the generous support from the Johnson and Johnson Foundation. 

Blended learning – Leadership & Management Program

The Management Development Institute (MDI) of the Global Business School Network (GBSN) enhances the management and leadership skills of sub-Saharan healthcare professionals through a one-week in-residence training program and up to a year-long supported project. Participants gain access to management tools, frameworks, and knowledge that enables them to increase the quantity, improve quality and expand access to health services.

By developing effective managers, the MDI supports the improvement of health systems throughout Africa. Mobile MDI is offered in partnership with four member schools in sub-Saharan Africa. The World Continuing Education Alliance (WCEA) will support the transformation of the program format and host it on their platform.

CPD Learning Pathways for Nurses and Midwives

This education project will be rolled out in Kenya & Ghana in partnership with the Regulators and other key stakeholders. This project has been made possible thanks to the continuing support of the J&J Foundation.
