VTT is a finalist in an international digital health innovation for its child growth app

ECHalliance member, VTT’s child growth application is a finalist in an international digital health innovation contest

Developed by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, the Kasvuseula online service, which analyses a child’s growth, has been selected as a finalist in the international Commonwealth Digital Health Awards competition.

VTT participated under the competition category of maternal and neonatal health innovations. The two best proposals were selected for the finals, to be held at the Digital Health Week event in Sri Lanka. The winner of the competition will be decided in October.

Kasvuseula provides parents with reliable, analysed data on the growth of their child and any related abnormalities. Parents can also log their child’s vaccination information in the service and follow the completion of the vaccination programme.

“With this service, VTT wants to help parents to monitor the healthy growth of children. In Finland, the details of more than 30,000 children have already been entered into Kasvuseula, which demonstrates the major public interest there is in the service,” says Key Account Manager Kari Kohtamäki, one of VTT’s developers of Kasvuseula. 

Kohtamäki believes that digital health services will play an important role internationally, in regions with an acute lack of health service resources as well as in developed countries. The aim of Kasvuseula is to use knowledge and motivation to help parents take better care of their children’s health. As a digital medium, it brings services within the reach of families cost-effectively and complements the available health care system.
