Youth Declaration on Creating Healthy Societies

The Youth Council of the World Health Organization (WHO) recently launched a Youth Declaration on Creating Healthy Societies: Building well-being, resilience, and trust. This declaration sets out three priority areas and 10 calls to action for the collective efforts of government, academia, the private sector, civil society organizations and individuals to help build healthy societies built for all. The Digital Transformations for Health Lab (DTH-Lab) is one of 23 member organisations of the Council and played an integral role in drafting and writing the declaration. We encourage readers to endorse the declaration and to support actions outlined by youth needed in building healthy, resilient societies grounded in trust and well-being.

Today the WHO Youth Council launched its first Youth Declaration on Creating Healthy Societies: Building well-being, resilience, and trust today at the World Health Summit in Berlin.

The Declaration calls for the collective efforts of government, academia, the private sector, civil society organizations and individuals to help build healthy, resilient societies grounded in trust and well-being. There are three priority areas outlined in the Declaration:

  1. Promoting health education and literacy
  2. Ensuring accessible and sustainable healthcare
  3. Transforming and elevating youth leadership

The DTH-Lab is a member of the WHO Youth Council which includes 23 youth organisations from around the world. The Lab played an integral role in writing the declaration with other members of the Youth Council over an eight month long process.

Aferdita Bytyqi, DTH-Lab Executive Director said:

“We are proud to have been involved in this important process, working alongside our fellow Youth Council members and Bertelsmann Stiftung. Youth engagement is central to our work and the Youth Declaration sets out clear actions to ensure young people play an active role in shaping their health and their futures.”

We encourage you to endorse the Declaration today HERE and join the WHO Youth Council in amplifying the 10 calls to action to decision makers globally.

Discover more about DTH-Lab:

Digital transformations are shaping all aspects of our lives, including health. Digital innovations can help to improve young people’s health and well-being and achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through their application in health systems, public health promotion and prevention, and personal self-management of health status and behaviours. Without good governance, digital transformations can undermine health and exacerbate inequality. As levels of connectivity increase, concerted efforts are required to ensure that digital technologies are harnessed in support of better health and well-being for all and the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

The DTH-Lab is a global consortium of partners working to drive implementation of The Lancet and Financial Times Commission on Governing Health Futures 2030’s recommendations for value-based digital transformations for health co-created with young people.
