Equality and Wellbeing across Generations (EWG) is a joint transnational call for proposals. With major demographic change taking place across Europe and Canada, we are inviting researchers to submit proposals that explore:

  • How demographic change is altering the implicit contract between generations?
  • How policy can ensure that change results in a reduction in inequality?

EWG consists of 11 countries (Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Latvia, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom) who have partnered to offer this funding opportunity on demographic change and inequality. More specifically, this call is focused on three aspects of inequality. Proposals may choose to focus on one, two or all three of these topics:

  1. Income and wealth
  2. Caring responsibilities
  3. Social and political participation

In addressing these topics we expect proposals to pay particular attention to cross-cutting issues of gender, cultural background and socio-economic background, all of which have a major bearing on inequalities. Proposals should consider the inclusion of one, two or all three of these issues in their research as an absolute requirement.

We accept proposals until 17:00 CEST September 14 2020. To learn more about the call and the full scope of our topics, please read our guidelines for applicants. Submission is done exclusively on this platform, so create an account to get started on your proposal today!

Looking to collaborate? Check out PARTNERING to find other researchers or post an offer! You can also reach out to members of JPI MYBL’s Societal Advisory Board who can help you identify relevant stakeholders to your proposal. They will be posting on the partnering tool in the coming days but you can also find their contact information under Call Documents.

Relevance of COVID-19

We acknowledge the relevance of the COVID-19 pandemic to the topic of this call. The pandemic has brought a refreshed focus on the relationship and inequalities between and within generations and on the responsibilities of generations to one another. The virus and the measures put in place to stop its spread are having differential impacts both between and within generations. This includes in key areas of daily life that are addressed as topics of this call – income and wealth, caring responsibilities, and social and political participation. The primary focus of proposals to this call should still be the research topics and cross-cutting issues set out in the call text above. However, proposals can, and where appropriate, recognise the COVID-19 pandemic as an important contextual factor in the research that is proposed.

The Joint Programming Initiative “More Years Better Lives – The Potential and Challenges of Demographic Change ” (JPI MYBL) is an intergovernmental initiative gathering to jointly coordinate European and national research programmes related to demographic change and fund new transnational research initiatives.
