Twelve innovators reach final of the Innovation Radar prize
Digital Single Market, European Commission

After three weeks of public voting, the decision has been made: out of 36 dynamic European innovators longlisted for this year’s Innovation Radar Prize, 12 will move to the next phase and compete in the final.

On 5 August, the Commission launched the Innovation Radar prize2019, an initiative that aims to celebrate high potential innovations – and the innovators behind them – developed in EU-funded research and innovation projects.

36 of the best innovators made the longlist for the prize and were competing in four categories. The innovators in the longlist include SMEs, university teams, spinoffs and start-ups and, coming from every corner of Europe, they reflect the diversity of EU-funded research and innovation.

The first stage of the competition took place in the following three weeks, with the public voting for the innovators and innovations that impressed them the most through the Commission’s Futurium website. We are also proud to announce the newly introduced category “Women-led innovation“, which really resonated with the public, with innovators in this category receiving over half of the votes that were cast.

The public polls closed on 26 August 2019 and a total number of 41,323 votes were cast. The three innovators who secured the most votes in each of the four categories and who will now proceed to the final are the following:

The Innovation Radar final will take place at the R&I Days in Brussels on 25 September 2019. Here the 12 finalists will have to pitch their EU-supported innovation to a jury of investors and entrepreneurs, and discuss their plans to push it out of the lab and into the market.

The jury will decide on a winner per category. One of these winners will also be awarded the overall 2019 Innovation Radar Prize and be featured on a Euronews programme covering their innovation and its market potential.

The winners will be announced on 26 September 2019.
