Learn more about the newest member to join our global community: The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS). MUHAS offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes and research opportunities.

The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) is the first and the best public university for Health Sciences in Tanzania. MUHAS offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes. Apart from teaching, other core functionals including research and public services. Research is one of the core functions at MUHAS. The University aims to advance knowledge, diffuse and extend the use of technology in learning, provide higher education training for health professionals and engage in impactful health-related research. MUHAS has been extensively involved in various collaborative link projects with research and programme development stakeholders. MUHAS has two campuses in Upanga and a new campus on 3800 acres of land at Mloganzila, about 25 km from Dar es Salaam city.

The University has recently inaugurated a multipurpose building for the Centre of Excellence in Cardiovascular Sciences, offering training and research in cardiovascular sciences. MUHAS has 91 programmes in biomedical, clinical and allied health sciences.

MUHAS has expertise and vast experience in digital health, innovations including artificial intelligence, biomedical engineering, health information system and general ICT infrastructure, systems and services. MUHAS has established a digital health and innovations (DHI) research group in order spearhead research and collaboration in DHI. MUHAS is an extensive experience working with national, regional and international stakeholders including government institution, other universities and research institutions, private sector and the industry in general.

MUHAS has developed several research agenda (MUHAS, 2021), which has a total of eighteen thematic areas, including “Knowledge Management and Informatics”. The research themes promote research in digital technologies and innovations for societal development as stipulated in the MUHAS Five-Year Rolling Strategic Plan 2020/2021-2024/2025. MUHAS has established a multidisciplinary group called the MUHAS Digital Health and Innovation Research Group (mDHIRG). The mDHIRG and now Digital Health Unit seeks to foster digital health education, research and innovations to promote the adoption of affordable and appropriate digital health solutions and services to address health systems challenges.

As an organisation, our needs are to continue to grow in order to reach more members and to create better networks between our members and Ecosystems. We also focus on being part of regional, national and international digital health and innovation development networks. We seek to continue work with our partners to conduct research, innovation, development and capacity building initiatives or projects.
