The EU Cancer Mission Bus Roadshow made its first stop in Brezoi, Romania, from 2-4 August 2024 launching an important initiative aimed at raising awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment across Europe. This Roadshow is a key component of the EU Mission on Cancer, an ambitious project organized by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD). The campaign seeks to engage European citizens through science-based outreach, helping them understand the importance of cancer prevention and equipping them with the tools to take proactive steps against the disease.

After its initial stop in Brezoi, the Roadshow will continue to Brașov, where it will be featured at the International Jazz Festival from August 16-18. This will be followed by a visit to Leresti, Arges, on 24 August, where the Romanian Living Lab of the 4P-CAN project will take place. The 4P-CAN project focuses on personalized tools for cancer prevention in Eastern Europe and is a crucial part of the EU Cancer Mission.

“Studies show that up to 40% of cancers can be prevented. Although the means of cancer prevention by targeting risk factors have been known for decades, the results of the campaigns have always been modest. Changing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is an individual decision, but one influenced by many factors beyond our control. The Cancer Mission, initiated and implemented by the European Commission, takes a different approach, putting citizens, communities, and society as a whole at the center to better understand people’s needs, attitudes, and perceptions in well-defined geographical and cultural spaces. Along with the innovative research projects currently being implemented in Romania, the presence of the Cancer Mission Bus in our country this summer represents an additional chance for Romanian citizens to benefit from innovative and effective means of prevention, at European standards,” said Dr. Marius Geantă, President of the Center for Innovation in Medicine and 4P-CAN coordinator.

The Roadshow will then proceed to its final stops in Constanța, at the Nostalgia Seaside event, and at the Palace of Culture in Iași, from 6-7 September 2024!
