TAIWAN is joining PULSE project
Horizon 2020

A delegation from Taiwan, with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) supported by the company ASUS, has participated in the three last PULSE consortium meetings held in Barcelona (November 2017), Pavia (February 2018) and Belgrade (May 2018) to first better understand the approach and the objectives of the PULSE project. Aligning with national initiatives around AI, smart cities and digital health (supported by national funding), ITRI has decided to propose to develop an additional pilot site for PULSE in Taiwan.

Taiwan pilot site will be in Keelung. This area of 132.76km2 gathers 7 districts with a unique profile: a population of  372,355 habitants, and 15% of the over 65 years. The area also counts with 9 hospitals and 150 clinics. This area suffers from an obesity problem as 40% of population are overweight, and diabetes is the third-leading cause of death in Keelung. The air pollution is also a major concern as many factors contribute to the poor quality:  from seasonal winds, ships, power plant, and industrial park.

This test-bed will target Diabetes Mellitus and Asthmatic patients, and with the support of Keelung city health bureau and the Community pharmacy, will develop several services such as: a cloud-based public health monitoring system, a healthy life / diet record, an IoT monitoring system with AI health assistant and a air quality measurement for monitoring and notifications.
