The recently published paper, “Foresight For Digital Health 2030: Scenarios, Barriers, And Enablers for A Sustainable Future,” co-authored by Karolina Mackiewicz and Robyn Freiheit, presents a comprehensive exploration of the future landscape of digital health in Europe. This research, stemming from the CONNECTINGHEALTH project conducted between 2022 and 2024 by ECHAlliance – The Global Health Connector, aims to identify opportunities and challenges within the digital health industry as we approach 2030.
Through a series of thematic workshops engaging key stakeholders across the sector, the authors developed four distinct scenarios that depict potential trajectories for digital health in Europe. These scenarios underscore the pivotal influence of policy development and public empowerment in shaping the adoption and integration of digital health solutions. The study also delves into the barriers hindering progress, such as regulatory uncertainties and societal acceptance, while highlighting enablers that could facilitate a sustainable digital health ecosystem.
The findings and recommendations outlined in this paper serve as a strategic roadmap for decision-makers, industry leaders, and researchers. By navigating the evolving digital health landscape with informed foresight, stakeholders can better prepare for and influence the future of healthcare delivery and innovation in Europe.
