Three university rectors, a mayor, chamber of commerce and PBN signed Szombathely2030 agenda in front of a large media interest. It is the formal start, following a year of preparatory work, to diversify the economy.
On 6 September, the signing ceremony of the Szombathely2030 program took place at a press conference. The signing of the cooperation agreement is a real milestone in the implementation of the program. Speakers at the event pointed out that knowledge is what is the key asset, and that this knowledge comes from universities, which need a supportive environment to exploit it.
“The cooperation among three universities, a local government and organizations aiming to exploit technological knowledge represents a unique knowledge opportunity in Hungary,” they said.
The aim of the program is to focus on research and development and education, with an R&D centre equipped with laboratories and research stations, including a healthcare testing environment that is internationally outstanding.
Meanwhile, the collaborating organizations have also taken visible steps over the past year to prepare the development program. These activities include a new accreditation of the University of Pécs in Szombathely, the launch of two institutes and a supported training program at Óbuda University in Szombathely, the increasing number of students in various courses at ELTE, the launch of a chamber of commerce course at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Vas County, also a unique production line for research and development and an intelligent senior room for testing environment purposes at PBN.
