With the Data Governance Act going into force this year, medical data altruism – also known as data donation – is gaining significant traction in Europe. Poland’s largest diagnostics laboratory network have just announced they will participate in the data donation program, created by the Donate Your Data Foundation alongside more than 40 patient and healthcare organisations.
Today the Polish laboratory network Diagnostyka and the Donate Your Data Foundation announced a partnership to jointly promote the noble idea of medical data donation based on patient informed consent.
Patients have a unique and valuable medical history. Through data donation, patients can easily and securely share their medical history with researchers to help fight diseases and give hope to millions of people waiting for new, breakthrough treatments.
The Donate Your Data Foundation supports the advancement of science by providing access to patients’ objective, anonymised medical data based on their explicit consent. The Foundation is building a global medical data donation system currently supported by a coalition of more than 30 healthcare and patient organisations. By filling out a simple consent form at a medical facility or online at podarujdane.pl, patients and the general public can join this growing community of data donors.
Diagnostyka is the largest network of laboratories in Poland. It specialises in providing laboratory services – from the collection and transport of biological material, through the performance of tests, to the delivery of the results of medical analyses. In addition, it engages in preventative activities, conducting various campaigns and social actions. Annually, Diagnostyka performs more than 120 million tests for about 20 million patients.
The partnership between the Donate Your Data Foundation and Diagnostyka is an extremely important step on the path towards a new era of medicine including patient-centric, personalised treatment. Access to laboratory test data from patients who give permission to donate their history can measurably contribute to this goal.
“We are pleased to begin this partnership by joining forces with the Podaruj Dane Foundation,” says Grzegorz Polus, Marketing Director of Diagnostyka Group, “As Poland’s leading medical laboratory network, we have always been committed to providing laboratory analysis of the highest quality to support healthcare professionals and researchers. By working with the Foundation, we are taking an important step toward a more ethical and transparent approach to the use of medical data. This collaboration opens up many new opportunities for research groups to harness the power of our extensive laboratory data, while respecting patient privacy and consent. We are proud to be part of this movement to advance medical research and improve patient outcomes.”
“We are excited to announce our partnership with Diagnostyka, Poland’s largest network of medical laboratories,” says Ligia Kornowska, President of the Donate Your Data Foundation, “Our foundation’s mission is to empower everyone to exercise control over their medical data. At the same time, we give research groups ethical access to data sets for pro-patient research. This is an important collaboration for us because it can enable access to a significant amount of laboratory data, based on informed consent from patients through our data donation system. We are pleased that together with Diagnostyka we can make a significant contribution to the advancement of medical research, for the benefit of patients in Poland and beyond.”
