At the heart of the WeMind International Forum 2025, Professor Kaisa Hartikainen—neurologist, researcher, and national advisor on brain health in Finland—will deliver the Opening Keynote, presenting a transformative vision for a more resilient society and health system

From 25–26 November 2025, the WeMind International Forum (WMIF) returns to Barcelona as the international meeting point for innovation in mental health, neuroscience, longevity, and personal autonomy. Hosted by WeMind Cluster, the forum will once again bring together stakeholders from across health, technology, research, care, and policy to accelerate solutions for the challenges of our time.

Kaisa Hartikainen, a leading voice in brain health

Kicking off this year’s forum will be Kaisa Hartikainen, professor of neurology at the University of Helsinki and head of the neurology department at the Wellbeing Services County of Päijät-Häme (Finland). She also serves as chief expert in Finland’s National Brain Health Programme. Her research focuses on how brain injury, disorder, or treatment—especially neuromodulation—affects cognitive and affective brain functions and their interaction. Hartikainen has led the development of novel brain health biomarkers and digital cognitive testing tools, such as the Executive Reaction Time test. Her clinical, teaching, and research work are all driven by the mission of improving brain health at both individual and population level.

With deep expertise in brain resilience and innovation, Hartikainen will deliver the Opening Keynote, entitled: “Making Society Resilient – A Brain Transition Economy Approach”

A new vision for mental health, longevity and autonomy in the digital age

In her keynote, Kaisa Hartikainen will introduce the concept of the Brain Transition Economy, a key proposal for redesigning systems, services, and policies through the lens of brain health, wellbeing, and cognitive resilience. She will argue that a healthy society must place mental health at its core, and that achieving this requires a shift in how we measure value, design care ecosystems, and integrate technology responsibly.

This keynote will set the stage for two days of powerful conversations on how digital innovation can serve not only efficiency, but equity and humanity in health systems.
