Leeds Academic Health Partnership is positioning Leeds and Leeds City Region as the engine of innovation to drive levelling up, not just for the City Region’s economy, but for the nation. This will contribute significantly to the post Covid-19 economic and health recovery.

In a new report, Think big, start small, scale fast, the Partnership outlines how the pandemic has intensified the need for adopting healthtech innovation. It sets out how it is working to catalyse and scale this, including:

  • creating a network, with support from industry and large scale employers, to promote the City Region’s healthtech assets,
  • growing and managing a pipeline of products and services for testing and deploying in health and care settings
  • embedding healthtech industry skills in partners’ training and education programmes
  • creating new roles for deploying innovation and embedding research into frontline care and
  • securing inward investments and company location into the region.

Leeds Academic Health Partnership is one of the biggest of its kind in the UK. It comprises all of the city’s National Health Service (NHS) organisations, three universities and Leeds City Council, as well as charity, further education, and regional health, social care and economic enterprise partners.

Together, they use innovative ideas to solve some of the city’s hardest health and care challenges. Read more about how the Partnership works here.

Managing Director Dr Liz Mear said:

We’re at an exciting state in taking our work to the next level in transforming health and care across the region. As we grow our network, we’re very keen to hear from innovators, potential contributors or partners to explore how we can work together towards transforming our economy and healthcare.

The Partnership’s innovative work also focuses on personalised medicine and health, specialising in arresting cancer and frailty – both health conditions having been exacerbated by the pandemic.

It is supporting the city and the region in transforming healthcare through better use of data to help make Leeds a ‘research-ready’ city.

And its pioneering Leeds Health and Care Academy is equipping the 57,000 people in the sector with the transformational skills to lead and innovate 21st century healthcare.
