Improving digital health literacy through MOOCs

Together with groups such as children, adolescents, pregnant and lactating women, elderly and citizens affected by diabetes, the IC-Health project is currently co-creating various Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to help improve the level of digital health literacy among European citizens. This will help people to play a more active role in their health.

The diversity of the population groups enables the testing of different methodologies for users’ involvement and the assessment of the impact of an improved digital health literacy on groups with very diverse features in terms of social and cultural background, as well as of level of digital and health literacy.

The MOOCs are free web-based distance learning courses. No prior knowledge needed; Free and easy access.

After the current co-creation phase, the 35 MOOCs will be tested by Communities of Practice and by other users. Their impact will be assessed in order to ensure their sustainability beyond the duration of the project.

7 countries involved

The IC-Health consortium consists of researchers, healthcare professionals and web designers from seven countries around Europe (Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Sweden). Among its partners, there are seven universities and research centres, one public authority, two SMEs, one hospital, one NGO and two European networks.

The IC-Health Information leaflets are available in seven languages.
