Dublin & Belfast, May 2025 – This week, a major step toward global collaboration in cancer care was announced during two key events: the All-Island Cancer Summit in Dublin and the ECHAlliance Global Health Connector 5 Nations Ecosystem Gathering in Belfast.
Brian O’Connor, Chair of ECHAlliance the Global Health Connector, and Professor Mark Lawler, Co-Chair of ACRI and Chair in Translational Cancer Genomics at Queen’s University Belfast, formally announced the creation of the first-ever Global Cancer Ecosystem, an initiative designed to connect global expertise and accelerate action on cancer-related health inequalities.
The first gathering of the Global Cancer Ecosystem will take place virtually on 7 October at 15:00 CET, bringing together leading voices and best practices from North America, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Ireland, and Africa. This unique global event will serve as a platform to share insights, align strategies, and foster collaborative action focused on reducing disparities in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes.
“Cancer doesn’t stop at borders, and neither should collaboration. This Global Cancer Ecosystem aims to bring the right people together to make a difference where it’s needed most” said Brian O’Connor.
The initiative is part of the broader mission of the Global Health Connector and ACRI to build cross-border health ecosystems that drive innovation and impact through multi-stakeholder collaboration.
