ECHAlliance is eager to actively engage in projects in Africa and establish partnerships with European and African organisations, aligning with the European Union’s commitment to fostering innovation collaboration with the continent. The recent extension of eligibility in Horizon Europe projects allows a broader spectrum of African entities to participate, presenting a significant opportunity for collaboration between European and African stakeholders.
The EU’s decision to include more African organisations is a strategic move to implement the AU-EU Innovation Agenda, recognizing the growing global significance of African research and innovation. The AU-EU Innovation Agenda focuses on crucial areas such as Public Health, Green Transition, Innovation & Technology, and Capacities for Science, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing global challenges collaboratively.
In 2020-2023, the ECHAlliance has expanded its capacity to collaborate with African organisations through its Global Health Connector Partnership initiative. It has signed a strategic partnership with Africa Health Business and became a partner of the African Digital Health Networks.
As part of the Horizon Europe 2023-2024 Work Programme, a series of calls for proposals will be published, providing avenues for African scientists to actively participate in and contribute to innovative research and development initiatives. One of them is the call “Strengthen the bilateral cooperation on research infrastructures with Africa” (HORIZON-INFRA-2024-DEV-01-02) that closes in March.
