ECHAlliance is proud to announce its role as a founding member of the newly launched European Standards for Health Interoperability Alliance (ESHIA), and the appointment of its Innovation Director Karolina Mackiewicz as Vice-President.
ESHIA is a major milestone in supporting the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and broader health data interoperability efforts. Officially launched in Brussels, ESHIA brings together key organisations committed to enabling the practical implementation of EHDS-related standards across Europe.
ESHIA was born from the xShare project, which recognised the growing need for a coordinated, multi-stakeholder platform to bridge the gap between European health data policy and the reality of national implementation. ESHIA will serve as a trusted space for cooperation among health authorities, standardisation organisations, industry leaders, and research projects, ensuring a harmonised approach to interoperability.
The xShare project, funded under the Horizon Europe programme, focuses on advancing cross-border health data sharing, with a strong emphasis on implementing EHDS use cases. xShare has laid the groundwork for collaborative structures like ESHIA by identifying challenges, solutions, and opportunities to scale interoperability in real-world settings.
As a founding member, ECHAlliance, The Global Health Connector brings its extensive international ecosystem of digital health actors to the table, creating synergies between policy, innovation, and implementation. Our participation ensures the voices of diverse stakeholders, including citizens, SMEs, and regional ecosystems, are reflected in this critical work.
We look forward to working alongside our fellow founding members and partners in ESHIA to advance the European vision of interoperable, secure, and equitable health data systems. This initiative marks a new chapter in shaping a healthier, more connected Europe.
