Digital Health Innovations for Better Healthcare’

The first Digital Health Malta Ecosystem gathering took place on November 20th, with key stakeholders from government, healthcare, industry, patients and academia in attendance. During the ecosystem digital health innovations were shared including:

Dr Hugo Agius Muscat, Consultant in Public Health Medicine, Ministry for Health who provided a clinical perspective on digital health innovations;

Dr Sharon Young updating the audience on what has been implemented and what is still needed in hospital innovation;

Mary Vella on behalf of the Malta Health Network and the Association of Rheumatoid Arthritis; provided a patient perspective

Tomas Gornik, Co-Chair, openEHR Foundation, giving an overview of openEHR approach and explained the Slovenian Ecosystem success.

Simon Formosa, Malta IT Agency, highlighted the work of the Agency in supporting the Ministry for Health in project delivery;

Dr Conrad Attard, University of Malta ICT, described digital health innovations through academic ICT.

This was followed by 2 start-up SMEs, Contansin and Umana Medical, who outlined the products and services they are developing in the area of digital health.

The attendees were alerted to the work of the Commonwealth Centre for Digital Health, by Anoop Singh, its Chief Operating Officer. 

During an interactive session regional priorities and perspectives were discussed and captured.  This priority exercise was analysis and shared with attendees directly.

The Ecosystem gathering was followed by a Commonwealth Small Island Development Programme workshop.
