The Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI) has established a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a new international collaboration partner, Federación Española de Empresas de Tecnología Sanitaria (Fenin).

The purpose of the MoU is to identify, develop and deliver innovation in digital health and care for both partners, their respective networks and countries (Scotland and Spain).

The focus is to develop a common framework to boost digital health and care ecosystems where Industry, R+D+I Institutes and Health Care Services from both countries would collaborate to promote not only a better and more mature adoption of Smart Health Technologies but also formulate new methods of knowledge co-creation, innovation and cross-border entrepreneurship.

Scotland’s Healthy Ageing Innovation Cluster has been identified as an ideal starting point. With our populations growing, and living longer, we often find them having more than one long-term medical condition to manage. Scotland has a powerful collaboration of shared strategic interests and common endeavour to address the biggest challenges and opportunities in ageing. It would be excellent to learn from Fenin’s experience and see what opportunities could present for Spanish and Scottish businesses to contribute to this agenda.

The DHI look forward to strengthening our relationship with Fenin and our Spanish counterparts to increase innovation opportunities and cross-border entrepreneurship.

Professor George Crooks OBE, Chief Executive Officer, Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre, said:

“We welcome this collaboration Fenin. As the world moves forward with both the remobilisation of health and care services and economic recovery post Covid-19, there has never been a greater need for collaboration and knowledge exchange”.

Margarita Alfonsel, General Secretary of Federación Española de Empresas de Tecnología Sanitaria (Fenin), said:

“We are particularly pleased with this partnership with DHI as it will make it possible to synergistically explore great opportunities in both countries. Undoubtedly, this stable framework will allow us to share information, experience and knowledge to jointly promote Smart Health activities”.
