This year 4LifeSupport joined the ECH Alliance. 4LifeSupport is a cooperative that brings together communities and service providers in healthcare lifestyle and well-being. Together we build the compliance supply chain for Bio Life Science & Health, facilitates platforms and services for Interdisciplinary, Transdisciplinary and Sustainable data use.
In healthcare different organisations have to work together, also when dealing with (personal) data. The FAIR principles are an important cornerstone in making this a reality. FAIR data means that the data within organisations are: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable.
The transformation of healthcare systems to comply with these principles is a huge and ongoing effort. Within 4LifeSupport we have developed a way to make this process easier. In collaboration with medical universities and the national research infrastructure we have developed a standard FAIR data point, that can be connected to existing systems to expose their metadata.
This allows complex datasets to be much more approachable by machines (using machine readable formats).
Current efforts are focused on connecting waiting lists for patients that have to undergo surgery, which is also linked to lifestyle data (in order to determine fitness for operations). Exchange of this data will allow different hospitals to exchange patients, reducing the waiting lists.
For another European project, PaLaDIn (https://project-paladin.eu), we’ve had the first architecture workshop this month, the project aims to create a so-called interactium. This interactium allows patient reported outcomes to play an important role in research, pharmaceutical developments, regulatory efforts and patient care. This is crucial for the voices of patients to be heard.
Within this project the use of FAIR data points is an important pillar for making data FAIR.
