At the end of September, ECHAlliance – The Global Health Connector hosted a two-day event during the 9th Science Summit at UN Global Assembly in New York. The aim of the event was to showcase the contributions of the ECHAlliance members and partners to the Sustainable Development Goals in four areas:

The rich programme and discussions generated a number of conclusions, recommendations and calls to action that will ultimately feed into the upcoming The Summit of the Future 2024. Following the Global Health Connector event, the ECHAlliance’s Chair, Brian O’Connor was invited to the Advisory Panel of the Summit and accepted the nomination.

With The Summit of the Future aiming to breathe new life into the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals, we acknowledge that the ECHAlliance global community of changemakers will specifically contribute to the Objective 5: Agree on a vision of digital technology as a motor for human progress that can deliver full benefits while minimising potential harm”.

During the Global Health Connector event on September 26-27, 2023, in New York, a different insights, conclusions, and calls to action were revealed. Now available for exploration, the comprehensive articles encapsulates all the findings, recommendations, and actionable strategies. Here’s a preview of the general recommendations:

  • Promote Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration among stakeholders from various sectors, including healthcare providers, policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and community representatives. Effective collaboration can lead to innovative solutions, knowledge exchange, and holistic approaches to healthcare challenges.
  • Harness Technology and Data: Leverage the power of technology and data to drive healthcare improvements across all themes. Establish global data standards, encourage the responsible use of digital health solutions, and invest in research and development to meet evolving healthcare needs, including personalised care and sustainability.
  • Prioritise Health Equity and Inclusivity: Prioritise health equity and inclusivity in all healthcare initiatives. Recognize that healthcare disparities exist within and across themes and regions. Implement policies and interventions that address these disparities, ensuring that healthcare services and innovations are accessible, affordable, and culturally sensitive to all populations.

By emphasising these overarching recommendations, the global community can create a more integrated and sustainable healthcare ecosystem that not only addresses the specific challenges within each theme but also fosters collaboration, technological advancement, and equitable access to healthcare for all.
