As COVID-19 (coronavirus) continues to spread globally, remote health monitoring can help to support citizens at home and target clinical interventions where they will be most effective.

For citizens with long term conditions, who are in isolation or quarantine, those infected or simply vulnerable in general, technology can enable the right care to be delivered without the need for physical contact.

Tunstall has been providing medically certified Connected Health solutions to people with long term conditions in their own homes since 2006, working with healthcare organisations and public authorities around the world.

Here’s an example of how Connected Health can be used to support and triage citizens at home:

  • Citizen receives letter from the hospital about the service and contact information, along with information on how to use the myMobile app on their mobile phone.
  • Patients use medical-grade peripherals to take their vital signs readings at home, and complete their individualised health questionnaire using the myMobile app.
  • The readings required and questionnaire can be tailored to the clinician’s wishes bu in relation to COVID-19 could include:
    • Temperature
    • General well-being
    • Indication of the degree of cough, salivation, difficulty breathing, diarrhea, muscle pain, headache
  • Citizens are reminded via phone notifications to report symptoms at specified times of day e.g. 10am and 2pm.
  • The citizen sends their data to municipality, local authority or hospital delivering the service.
  • Clinicians can view the data of all citizens in home quarantine through the browser-based portal icp triagemanager. Each citizen’s results are triaged by the software in red, yellow, green or blue according to the parameters set by the clinician.
  • Clinicians can view the colour coded dashboard, enabling them to contact the sickest patients first, prioritising care delivery according to need.
  • The system also allows clinicians can write / receive messages to / from the citizen via the app, and add notes to the citizen’s record.

The remote monitoring service is just one of a range of technology propositions that can be deployed to help meet the challenge of COVID-19.
