The Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society and the Banatao Institute (CITRIS) leverage the research strengths of the University of California campuses at Berkeley, Davis, Merced and Santa Cruz, and operate within the greater ecosystem of the University and the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of Silicon Valley. We strengthen bridges between world-class laboratory research, state and national policymakers, and companies and startups creating new applications and reshaping entire industries. CITRIS and the Banatao Institute facilitates interdisciplinary work among hundreds of University of California faculty members, students, corporate partners, and international institutions. Together with these public and private partners, we are shaping the future of technology in ways that cross traditional boundaries.

CITRIS Health explores technology innovations to improve health outcomes and access for all. The CITRIS Health initiative brings researchers, technologists and innovators together across campuses, industry and government sectors, and countries to share their best ideas and craft innovative solutions to society’s most pressing health problems, such as healthy aging and uneven, inequitable access to care. Information technology research has untapped potential to improve health and quality of life at both individual and population health levels. Through its projects and programs, CITRIS Health accelerates these changes by shortening the pipeline between world-class health technology and its translation into everyday practice. As more of these technology-based solutions are tested, deployed and scaled up, our society will see the results in improved and equitable health care outcomes, consistent quality of care and streamlined costs.

We are interested in developing partnerships between the ECH Alliance community and our global community of researchers who apply technology to unlock solutions to access to care, healthy aging, data gaps and health policy issues. We hope to improve health by contributing to research and demonstration projects, disseminating the innovations developed in the CITRIS Health network, and supporting other members enhance collective impact for the good of society.
