The inaugural Africa Primary Health Care Forum (APHCF), held from July 14–15, 2025, at the Lake Greenfield Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria, brought together a wide range of stakeholders to address urgent challenges in Africa’s primary health care (PHC) systems. The Forum focused on strengthening PHC through workforce development, resilient service delivery, and digital health innovation, drawing critical lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic. It aligns with the World Health Organization’s Public Health and Emergency Workforce Roadmap.
APHCF provided a collaborative platform for policymakers, researchers, health workforce experts, digital health innovators, community health workers, and non-state actors to engage in dialogue, share evidence, and forge new partnerships. A central theme of the Forum was the importance of multisectoral collaboration to create people-centered, equitable health systems that work for everyone—especially the underserved populations.
By fostering a solution-oriented approach and leveraging Africa’s growing expertise, the Forum marks a significant step forward in driving health equity and achieving Universal Health Coverage across the continent.
