Established in 2008 with a mission to foster a healthier, happier, and safer world, the Association for Prevention of Infectious Diseases (BUHASDER) is a prominent non-governmental organization operating nationwide in Türkiye. With a resolute team of more than five hundred members, BUHASDER focuses on educational, preventive, and therapeutic measures against communicable diseases, particularly in low-income settings.
BUHASDER’s efforts are strategically targeted towards vulnerable populations, including women, youth, Roma people, immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers residing in Türkiye, notably the large Syrian population under temporary protection. Recognizing the heightened susceptibility of disadvantaged groups to infectious diseases, BUHASDER has spearheaded various initiatives to address their unique needs.
One significant aspect of BUHASDER’s work is its focus on cancer prevention through the prevention of infectious diseases such as HPV and Hepatitis C. Understanding the interplay between infectious agents and cancer development, BUHASDER implements awareness campaigns, educational programs, and preventive measures to mitigate the risk of cancer among at-risk populations.
By harnessing its vast network of medical professionals, researchers, and social scientists both in Türkiye and globally, BUHASDER aims to advocate for healthier lifestyles, increase awareness regarding the significance of vaccination, and bolster cancer prevention efforts through the mitigation of infectious diseases linked to cancer development.
In collaboration with local and international partners and organizations, BUHASDER actively participates in conferences, workshops, and research projects to advance global efforts in combating infectious diseases and preventing pandemics. With a strong emphasis on prevention, BUHASDER embodies the motto “Prevention is always better than treatment,” advocating for proactive measures to safeguard public health and well-being. Through its multifaceted approach and unwavering commitment, BUHASDER continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of infectious disease prevention and cancer control, both locally and internationally.
