Tackling the Taboo: Fastcare Trains Staff on Mental Health Care

Fastcare Clinics is taking a bold step in addressing mental health by launching a specialized training program for its medical staff, in partnership with the US-based Behavioral Health International Institute. The 10-hour training focuses on diagnosing and managing common conditions such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, dementia, and PTSD—issues frequently encountered at Fastcare clinics. By integrating mental health services into primary care, Fastcare is ensuring that frontline healthcare workers are better equipped to provide holistic, compassionate care. This initiative not only tackles stigma but also strengthens access to essential mental health support for underserved communities in Ghana.

Mental health often remains in the shadows of Ghana’s healthcare system, but Fastcare Clinics is shining a much-needed light on the issue. Starting this December, Fastcare’s medical staff will participate in a groundbreaking 10-hour training program conducted by experts from the US-based Behavioral Health International Institute.

This intensive training focuses on equipping staff to diagnose and manage mental health conditions that are increasingly prevalent within Ghanaian communities. The curriculum is tailored to the real-life cases Fastcare encounters most often: depression, anxiety, substance abuse, dementia, and PTSD. By addressing these specific issues, the program ensures that clinicians gain practical skills to meet patients’ needs effectively and compassionately.

“Mental health care should not be a luxury—it’s a necessity, especially at the primary care level,” emphasized Dr. Ayotunde Joshua Agbede, Chief Medical Officer. “Partnering with Behavioral Health International Institute ensures our team is trained by the best in the field, enabling us to break barriers and foster a culture of care that addresses the whole person.”

This initiative reflects Fastcare’s unwavering commitment to holistic healthcare, setting a new standard for inclusivity and compassion in Ghana’s medical landscape. By integrating mental health services into primary care, Fastcare is empowering its staff and patients to tackle stigmas head-on and create a brighter, healthier future.
