Cáritas Coimbra, with the support of AFEdemy Ltd., presented the Smart Healthy-Friendly Environments proposal as a strategic initiative for a joint declaration in 2018.

The European Commission has launched a call for expression of interest on thematic networks for 2018 which ended on 16 November. Ten proposals were voted until Dec. 7 on the EU Health Policy Platform. The Commission will take the final decision on the basis of these results and announce the four new thematic networks selected by early 2018.

The Network proposed by Cáritas Coimbra aims to discuss and facilitate the creation of healthy and friendly environments for all ages, through the use of new technologies, as a priority for the 2018 policy, with a view to producing a Join Statement on this subject.

The revitalization of Active and Healthy Aging initiatives (preparing post-2020) will involve high-level discussions between different groups, networks, DGs, EIPs and even international organizations, understanding the symbiotic interdependence of these issues with a Healthy and Competitive Europe.

This Thematic Network aims to create a high-level political alignment of all these networks and initiatives for ageing issues and it is expecting that ECHAlliance is one of its partners. It is aligned with EU Health priorities in creating synergies that will increase quality, innovation and sustainability for the implementation of better health care systems, economic growth and sustainable health, in line with the Blueprint for a digital transformation of health and care in an ageing society.

Having such a representative expression in the poll, with 111 votes, we now expect the European Commission to confirm this result and to consider it essential in the context of the priorities for 2018.
