ECO-SD: Building a Shared Vision for Digital Health Innovation in Chile

For three months, ECO-SD led a co-creation process with nearly 150 organizations across Chile to define a shared vision, looking to drive innovation and adoption of digital health solutions. This collaboration aims to build a resilient and more adaptable healthcare system, enhancing patient care and efficiency. As ECO-SD grows, it focuses on creating societal value through innovation and preparing the health system for future challenges.

Over the past months, ECO-SD has conducted an intensive co-creation process aimed at finding a common vision and purpose to drive innovation and the adoption of new digital health solutions through collaboration. This effort has involved all relevant sectors, creating a space for dialogue and cooperation that promises to transform the healthcare system in Chile.

“For us, it was crucial to build a strong network of stakeholders and adopt a cross-sectoral approach to identify and address the barriers to innovation. During several virtual meetings, we connected with nearly 140 organizations across Chile, discovering our common purpose: to build a healthcare system capable of adapting to future challenges through innovation,” said Mair Caro, ecosystem leader and member of the innovation team at the National Center for Health Information Systems (CENS).

As ECO-SD continues to grow, the initiative is expected to improve patient care, enhance the efficiency of the healthcare system, and generate significant social value through innovation. “This process has allowed us to validate our ideas on how ECO-SD could address the need for more and better innovation in digital health and align stakeholders behind a common purpose. ECO-SD seeks to create conditions that benefit all actors, enabling synergies to emerge among its members,” Caro added.

One of the most notable aspects of this initiative is the recognition of the interdependence between different sectors and the imperative need to collaborate around innovation. ECO-SD not only aims to build capacities and promote the adoption of innovation but also to support the validation of solutions and the generation of evidence. Additionally, it seeks to connect with the challenges and talents in the regions, in a country where a significant portion of opportunities are concentrated in the capital.

“In Chile, we have a lot of innovative talent, but it’s necessary to create additional opportunities, especially in the early stages of these initiatives. In the health sector, in particular, it is crucial to create networks that enable the development of market-oriented solutions and create the conditions to accelerate their adoption and scaling,” Caro noted.

CENS has been the driving force behind this initiative, achieving broad participation in the process thanks to its extensive collaborative network. With an eye toward the future, ECO-SD positions itself as an essential pillar in the transformation of the digital health ecosystem in Chile, driving a change that promises to improve the lives of all citizens.
