In October 2024, Brian O’Connor, Chair of the ECHAlliance, joined digital health leaders for a pivotal plenary session at the Africa HealthTech Summit (AHTS) in Kigali. Titled “Connecting Africa Digital Health Communities of Practice,” this session highlighted the progress of the Africa Digital Health Networks (ADHN) and its mission to transform healthcare across Africa through digital innovation.
ADHN, launched at the previous year’s summit, is a pan-African initiative dedicated to uniting stakeholders from government, private sector, and civil society to address health system challenges through technology.
At this year’s plenary, prominent voices such as Dr. Amit Thakker of African Health Business, Dr. Ibrahima Khaliloulah DIA of Senegal’s Ministry of Health, and Jean Philbert Nsengimana, Chairperson of the ADHN Taskforce discussed the network progress, challenges, and future goals for building a collaborative digital health ecosystem in Africa.
During the session, they provided a comprehensive progress update on ADHN’s work over the past year, including:
- Growth of our communities of practice across digital health areas
- Key initiatives focused on capacity building, knowledge sharing, and policy development
- Updates from our network dockets, including Private Sector, Academia, Development Agencies, Government Agencies, Global Engagement and Youth engagement efforts
One of the central theme was the mission of uniting Africa’s digital health professionals to share insights, establish partnerships, and create scalable solutions tailored to the continent’s needs.
Brian O’Connor’s participation underscored ECHAlliance’s commitment to global digital health integration and engagement, echoing ADHN’s goals of inclusivity and sustainable health solutions for Africa’s future. Through such collaborations, both organizations aim to build a more connected, resilient digital health ecosystem, empowering health systems across the continent and beyond.
