Free Online Training Empowers Healthcare Professionals to Tackle Antimicrobial Resistance
Healthcare professionals across Europe now have access to the AMR EDUCare online platform—a free, high-quality training initiative designed to combat the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Funded by the EU4Health Programme, this platform equips doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and healthcare managers with practical tools to promote responsible antibiotic use and reduce the spread of resistant bacteria.
The training consists of three targeted modules: optimising antimicrobial prescribing, managing antimicrobial waste, and effective patient communication. Developed with a One Health focus, the platform highlights the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health and supports behavioural change for long-term impact.
Despite rising awareness, AMR remains a major public health challenge across Europe, with overuse of antibiotics and poor waste management continuing to fuel resistant infections. AMR EDUCare aims to close knowledge gaps and improve the daily practices of healthcare providers to help reverse these trends. The platform is currently available in English, with more languages to follow soon.
Over 4,000 healthcare professionals are expected to benefit from the programme by 2025, with tailored content for seven EU countries. The project aims to reduce antibiotic overprescription, improve waste management practices, and strengthen public communication around AMR.
