Report: the city Festival of Ageing, July 2018

On the 2nd and 3rd July partners from the EIP-AHA D4 group on Innovation for age friendly buildings, cities and environments met in Manchester, UK during the city Festival of Ageing that was taking place during this week.

A large group attended and heard best practice from partners as well as to consider age friendly integration and practice on a regional scale in the context of Greater Manchester’s recent recognition by the WHO as the UK’s first Age Friendly City Region.


In addition there were sessions on the following themes:

  • Employment, skills and worklessness among the over 50s 
  • Age-friendly neighbourhood working and collaborative models
  • Housing and Planning
  • Age-Friendly Culture
  • Innovation and Ageing 
  • Public Health - Sex and Intimacy and Later Life


Andy Bleaden from ECHAlliance also led a session looking at progress and achievements with the D4 Action Plan as well as a session looking at what themes the group wanted to target in order to progress action on the SHAFE thematic network, work and the Silver Economy as well as Age Friendly Tourism and Health Tourism. Alongside this the discussion also took place on the cross cutting themes for the group that will help it align with the Digital Single Market as well as the Blueprint, Mafeip and Innovation to Market elements within EIP-AHA.
