Listening to patients’ needs at SABIEN PERISCOPIO 2017 event Valencia

A meeting of SABIEN PERISCOPIO 2017, with the collaboration of VLC-Health, the ECHAlliance ecosystem in Valencia.

The main focus was the patient and their needs to advance patient empowerment. The increase in knowledge and in health alphabetization is also a requirement that has to be accomplished for facilitating the active participation of patients. One important role may be played by the information and communication technologies (ICT), which have shown success in several initiatives.

The meeting ( took place in the ITACA Institute of the Polytechnic University of Valencia and was focused in the role of eHealth technologies to increase patient empowerment. The main target was engineers, health professionals and patients associations.

The faculty was integrated by representatives of two patients associations, that of the celiac disease in the region of Valencia and that of the Alzheimer’s disease in the city of Valencia. The other two speakers were Antonio Cano, coordinator of VLC Health, the ECHAlliance ecosystem in Valencia, and Elia Gabarrón, from the Norwegian Centre for eHealth Research. A long debate followed the talks.
