The Medicines Optimisation Working Group, chaired by Professor Mike Scott was joined by two guest speakers on the call on September 11.  Dr. Hugo van der Kuy, Ziekenhuisapotheker, Clinical Pharmacologist, Zuyderland Medisch Centrum, the Netherlands and Anže Droljc, Product Manager OPENeP/Think!Clinical, Slovenia.

There were two very informative presentations that led to many questions:

Dr van der Kuy presented on the CLEAR study - Clinical and Laboratory data Evaluation for an Appropriate Medication Review. The aim of this study was to evaluate to what extent laboratory data, actual medication, medical history, and/or drug indication influence the quality of medication reviews for nursing home patients.

Anze Droljc gave a presentation on a comprehensive medication management system OpeneP. Itis time saving for nurses. It includes an integrated decision support which helps the medical team make more informed decisions and prevent adverse drug reactions. He also outlined a roadmap for further development of the system.

The working group is planning to meet physically in December and calls are scheduled for February, April and June next year.
