EIP Active & Healthy Aging Reference Sites: Zealand, Denmark

Region Zealand – collaboration to scale up innovative solutions for active and healthy ageing

Region Zealand is one of five regions in Denmark and provides healthcare services for 825.893 citizens. The Region is responsible for providing services such as primary care, psychiatry and hospital services. Additionally, health innovation is an important action area in the region as it embodies benefits for citizens and enter-prises.

The region and its 17 municipalities are collaborating on innovative solutions that can ease communi-cation within the healthcare system, as well as solutions to prevent readmissions, comorbidity and to pro-mote active and healthy ageing. Region Zealand has over the past four years invested heavily in new technical infrastructure and establishment of databases on patient treatment and analysis of patient data, which can enhance efficiency in treatment and care of patients.

Region Zealand plans to launch a regional eco-system in collaboration with the European Connected Health Alliance. Additionally, Region Zealand has recently embarked on adopting a new Innova-tion Strategy with a broad focus on AHA. Region Zealand has been a part of EIP Integrated Care Action Group and is an active member of the European CORAL network (Community of Regions for Assisted Living). The experiences with EIP-on-AHA and the European CORAL network that both foster capacity building and mutual learning encouraged Region Zealand to apply for a Reference Site status since it will build a greater platform for knowledge sharing.

One of the Reference Site’s aims status is to increase knowledge levels and access to new health care solutions from abroad through exchanges between health ecosystems.
