South West Interdisciplinary Technology Consortium for Healthcare (SWITCH) – Ecosystem Launch Event
8th July 2019 @ 11:45

Organised by the University of Plymouth and the South West Academic Health Science Network.
As part of the Centre of Health Technology (CHT), University of Plymouth we have been working with a range of stakeholders in the region over the last 10 years to implement integrated healthcare using digital technologies.
Among others, in 2017 we received two large grants across Devon and Cornwall to facilitate bottom-up innovation by increasing capacity and improving capabilities across the Digital Health continuum in the region. The projects were run in collaboration with the LEP’s, Councils, SW ASHN, CCG’s, Creative England, Patient Association’s and a large network of Primary, Secondary and Tertiary care organisations. Historical evidence indicates that successful projects are incredibly difficult or impossible to sustain beyond the funding lifecycle of such initiatives. Reviewing the evolving good practise on models to sustain bottom-up innovation in healthcare using technology we are setting up an interdisciplinary consortium to create opportunities for greater collaboration and dialogue in addressing and supporting better healthcare in the South West and UK generally.
Over the past two years, we have been collaborating with the European Connected Health Alliance (ECHAlliance), based in Ireland; to learn about their work and especially the International Ecosystem Network. The ECHAlliance is a not for profit organisation and their expanding International Ecosystem Network reaches across Europe, UK and North America. Soon they will add ecosystems in Australia, Sri Lanka and Africa. In discussion with the ECHAlliance we have modelled the proposed consortium as an ecosystem to incubate, accelerate, embed and export Innovative technology solutions in Healthcare coalescing around internationally-recognised technology and data standards.
On the 8th of July 2019, CHT in collaboration with SW ASHN will launch our ‘ecosystem’ in the South West and linking it to the wider Digital Health Ecosystem Network across the globe.
- Andy Bleaden Director Ecosystems will be talking about The ECHAlliance Ecosystem Network; Exporting Health Technology Innovation as well as leading an Innovation Showcase Event
