Janssen Healthcare Innovation (Johnson & Johnson)

Marco is Partner of Janssen Healthcare Innovation (Johnson & Johnson) in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Janssen Healthcare Innovation (JHI) was established in 2010 by the Pharmaceutical Global Operating Committee with the vision to accelerate the transformation of J&J from a product-centric company to a broader health care company. JHI has the specific mission to identify, foster and manage a portfolio of transformational partnerships; accelerate the development, experimentation and learning from new ideas and business models that will lead to new revenue streams; as well as drive collaboration within J&J and the industry and enable the creation of new healthcare markets.

Prior to taking on this role, Marco was heading up the Neuroscience Business Unit and Member of the Management Committee of Janssen (Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson) in the UK.

Before joining Janssen as Strategic Marketing Director in the EMEA in 2007, Marco was Principal at the strategy consultancy Monitor Group, where he advised numerous clients in the life science sector on a wide range of strategic and operational issues.

Erectile dysfunction can be defined as the inability to achieve or maintain a penile erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance.1 In the face of an aging population, decreasing social stigma associated with erectile dysfunction and an increasing availability of effective oral therapy for its treatment, the number of patients presenting with this complaint has increased dramatically. Current estimates describe 2–3 million Canadian men as having significant recurring erectile difficulties. Recent reports identifying a dramatic increase in rates of diabetes, increased longevity and higher quality-of-life expectations by "baby boomers" are all believed to be factors in a projected continued expansion of the patient population requesting medical help with sexual issues in the near future.2,3 Although historically erectile dysfunction was a problem identified and treated by urologists, today primary care physicians and other specialists write 80% of the prescriptions for sildenafil, the most popular drug used to treat the condition.4 Since an erection requires a precise sequence of events, ED can occur when any of the events is disrupted. The sequence includes nerve impulses in the brain, spinal column, and area around the penis, and response in muscles, fibrous tissues, veins, and arteries in and near the corpora cavernosa. buy Viagra 150mg here canadian pharmacy viagra for sale online We next sought to determine whether we could restore T cell proliferation of PBMCs isolated from head and neck and MM patients stimulated with anti-CD3/CD28 antibody-coated beads in the presence or absence of sildenafil. The expansion of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells obtained from MM or head and neck patients was significantly less than that observed using healthy donors (Fig. 8 B). In contrast, in the presence of sildenafil, PBMCs from MM and head and neck patients expanded similarly to sildenafil-treated PBMCs from healthy donors (Fig.8 B). Interestingly, qualitative differences in T cell expansion emerged between the two malignancies. In head and neck patients, CD8+ T cell proliferation is restored with PDE5 inhibition while CD4+ lymphocyte expansion in the same condition is only partially augmented. In contrast, CD4+ T cell proliferation is restored and minimal effects are seen on CD8+ lymphocyte expansion with PDE5 blockade in myeloma (Fig. 8 B). Missed Signals
