For 2018, EUR 36 million of Horizon 2020 funding is available for reducing cyber risks in hospitals. For 2019, another EUR 60 million will go to trusted connected care services.

ICT infrastructures and data have become critical for the functioning of hospitals and care systems. Due to increasing connectivity, the exposure to risks of cyber-crime is rising. Cyber-attacks are a potential danger to the safety of patients and to the privacy of sensitive health data.

No wonder that cybersecurity of health data and privacy is getting a lot of attention in the 2018-2020 Societal Challenge 1 Work Programme of Horizon 2020.

Two topics have cybersecurity exclusively at their core:

  • Developing a toolkit for assessing and reducing cyber risks in hospitals and care centres to protect privacy/data/infrastructures - SU-TDS-02-2018 (Budget: EUR 35 Million - deadline to apply is 24/4/2018 )
  • Coordination and support action for raising awareness and developing training schemes on cybersecurity in hospitals - SU-TDS-03-2018 (Budget: EUR 1 Million - deadline to apply is 24/4/2018 )

On top of this, the Innovation action topic (DT-TDS-01-2019 also addresses privacy, security and trust in connected data spaces. This topic calls for projects that can develop innovative solutions for smart and healthy living at home and has a budget of 60 Million. It will be open from 26 July 2018 until 14 November 2018.

So in total an amount of  EUR 100 Million has been budgetted for trusted digital solutions and cybersecurity in health and care,
